| LOOKING AT PRESEASON GAME TWO -8/20/04 | |||||

By Butch Davis This preseason game isn’t going to decide our season, but it is important. And it’s especially important given the way things went last week. We want to be sharper and crisper and eliminate a lot of the penalties. We’d like to be more cohesive. We want to continue to evaluate guys on the bubble. The starters may get a little more time. It will probably come down to the number of plays. You have to assume there will be 63 offensive and defensive plays. You have to cut those up a little bit, 20-20-20 or something like that. Our twos played a little more than they needed to the other night. Maybe this mix will be 20-25-15 or something like that. We’ve talked a lot about the players everyone notices, but there are guys who catch your eye late in the game or in practice. Sometimes I think guys go unnoticed even though they do a lot for the team. One of those guys on our team is Andre King. He played well the other night in Tennessee. Andre King’s passion for the game is as good as anybody who’s ever played. He is the most unselfish guy. He is the unsung hero. He goes out there and you get every single bit of his being into every game. The way he blocks, the way he runs with the ball, the way he plays special teams. He is on fire. He gets the most out of his ability than maybe anybody I’ve ever seen play football. He was the exact same guy at Miami. If young guys aren’t looking at him, they’re making a horrible mistake. He’s smart. He knows every single wide receiver position. He probably knows just about every one of the skill positions. In an emergency he could fill in for any given guy on any given drive. He’s that valuable to our team. |
