Andre Omar King was born in Kingston, Jamaica on 11/26/73. King and his family moved to Florida when he was eleven years old. Recruited by Tennessee, West Virginia, Miami and Michigan, he signed a National letter of intent with Michigan out of high school before opting to pursue a Major League baseball career…where he was selected in the second round, 66 overall, in the 1993 major league amateur draft by the Atlanta Braves. Andre played with four different minor league clubs over a four year period before retiring July of 1997 to attend the University of Miami (Florida). He received his Bachelor's degree in Business Administration in 2000 and a minor in Sports Management in the spring of 2001.

King married his high school sweetheart Jessica on November 29, 1997, the day of the season finale versus the Syracuse Orangmen. King was excused from the contest because the wedding was planned around a forlong baseball season. Jessica has given birth to their first child, Alanna Jaclyn in April 2001…Son of Randolph and Cynthia, Andre is one of four children, sisters Hyacinth, Lisa and Renee.

Active in Cleveland community, King has donated his time to various non-profit organizations including building a home for Habitat For Humanity, visiting the Cleveland Clinic Children’s Hospital and distributing turkeys to Cleveland residents during the holiday season.

At Miami King was looked upon to provide leadership…an extremely hard worker with good hands…a solid receiver who was not afraid to go over the middle. Andre was featured in two and three wide receiver sets, sometimes slotted out as the single receiver. King was also a maniac on the Hurricanes special teams. He started on kickoff return, punt protection, and punt rush just to list a few.

Former professional baseball player who enrolled at UM after five-year minor league career…his college education was financed through a trust fund established the Major League Baseball… had not played football since graduating high school, five years prior to joining the 'Canes in 1997.

One of the top blockers and pass catchers on the team, King was also named to the All Big-East academic honor roll in three consecutive years (1998, 1999, 2000), for maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better. Andre was also tapped into Iron Arrow, an exclusive honor society that encompasses leadership, humility, love of alma mater, scholarship and character. Iron Arrow is the highest and most prestigious award that anyone will ever receive at the University of Miami… He was recently inducted into Who's Who among students in American Universities and Colleges…he was also given the Dale Melching Award for leadership for the second time in his Miami career.
